Yes, the campus buildings at IIT Bombay are largely accessible, as the Institute actively works to ensure a barrier-free and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities. In alignment with the mandates of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, the PwD Cell and the institute administration have implemented several infrastructural improvements across the campus.

IIT Bombay provides barrier-free hostel accommodations for PwD students, featuring ground-floor rooms with customized, adjustable furniture and dedicated accessible washrooms. Hostel buildings ensure smooth mobility through entrance ramps, thresholds, and wheelchair accessibility.

Currently, the campus provides dedicated electric buggy services for all PwD individuals. We are continuously working on further enhancing commute accessibility across the campus to ensure seamless transit.

Eligible PwD candidates at IIT Bombay receive tailored exam assistance, including the option to request an official scribe or reader for visual, dyslexic, or upper limb impairments. Candidates automatically receive compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour (60 minutes extra for a 3-hour exam), along with access to magnified font sizes and guaranteed accessible seating on the ground floor or in wheelchair-friendly exam halls.

The Central Library at IIT Bombay features a dedicated facility for visually impaired individuals equipped with screen-reading software (JAWS), Daisy players, Braille embossers, and advanced scan-and-read tools.
